Charleville Credit Union - Q&A

26 October 2017

Repayment of members savings

The Deposit Guarantee Scheme (DGS) has issued compensation payments by cheque to over 10,900 members of Charleville Credit Union.  Members should be currently receiving their payments.

In certain instances the DGS may need some additional information before payments are made, for example in the case of an estate.  Further information can be found in FAQs included on the Deposit Guarantee Scheme website -

The Provisional Liquidators will shortly be posting out statements to members which will confirm the balances that were held in their accounts.  We would be grateful if members could wait until they receive the statements and if they have any specific queries on the balances at that stage to then contact us and we will deal with queries at this point.

The Provisional Liquidators will shortly be writing to all members who have loans.  This letter will outline how members should deal with their loan repayments going forward.

Standing orders / direct debits

We recommend that any member who has a standing order or a direct debit set up to pay into their savings account should contact their bank to stop these.

Any monies that have been paid into members’ deposit/savings accounts since the date the Credit Union went into liquidation (13 October 2017) that have not been captured by the DGS cheques will be refunded to members in the coming weeks.

Reopening of the Credit Union office

The Credit Union will re-open from Wednesday 1 November 2017 in order to facilitate loan repayments and answer questions that members may have.  The new opening hours are set out below: -

New Opening Hours:

  • Monday: 9.30 – 17.00
  • Tuesday: CLOSED
  • Wednesday: 9.30 – 17.00
  • Thursday: 9.30 – 17.00
  • Friday: 9.30 – 17.00
  • Saturday: CLOSED
  • Sunday: CLOSED

Cheques that were issued by the Credit Union but have not yet been presented

Please bring these cheques to the Credit Union office when it reopens (see above) so that new cheques can be re-issued.

There is a required process to re-issue new cheques so the Provisional Liquidators will not be in a position to issue new cheques immediately. We would expect that new cheques will issue within one week of you presenting the current cheque at the Credit Union office.
