An award-winning week
Last week can truly be described as award-winning: BDO were awarded three prestigious awards at the inaugural International Accounting Bulletin (IAB) Awards on 8 March and also scored wins at the European Managing Partners’ Forum (EMPF) Awards. In the same week, BDO Guernsey was named Guernsey’s Best Large Business of the year, with the firm being recognised as one that ‘…really encourages, promotes and supports its staff’.
The IAB awards saw a good attendance from industry leaders, including BDO’s former CEO, Jeremy Newman, who received the Personality of the year award, and special guest and chairman of the IAB Sir David Tweedie, who received the Lifetime achievement award.
The short-listed candidates presented a tough challenge, but BDO through its collaboration and ability to deliver exceptional service were the leaders of the evening, collecting the ‘Young accountant of the year’ and ‘Tax adviser of the year’ awards.
Young Accountant of the Year: Trond-Morten Lindberg, BDO Norway
Managing partner of BDO Norway, Trond was recognised for his efforts in transitioning a federation of firms into a single national firm and for pulling off a major merger. Trond-Morten went on to lead BDO Norway through a period of rapid growth - + 50% in the past two years.
Tax Adviser of the Year: BDO
BDO were recognised both for our comprehensive suite of tax services and for our exceptional ability to coordinate cross-border tax planning: in one particular case helping a major IT client in 60 countries identify and resolve tax risks and maximise its tax position. The complex project included the creation of a Global Tax Risk Register for the client. This involved a combination of Tax Risk expertise, innovative use of technology and the input and co-ordination of the BDO network around the world.
John Wonfor, BDO’s Global Head of Tax, said: “I’m delighted for all our tax advisers that the hard work and innovation I see every day has been publically recognised through this award. Our tax teams across the world focus on delivering exceptional levels of service to their clients and do so with a proactive, innovative and commercial attitude. Our tax advisers not only understand the complex world of global compliance and tax planning, but also the precise needs of clients who need tailored solutions. This award recognises that we truly are leading the global tax field. Congratulations to them all”.
The awards achieved by BDO have one consistent theme: ‘Exceptional client service delivered by empowered people’.
