On 1st January 2022, the second phase of the UK's Border Operating Model will be introduced. This will lead to new customs controls at the Great Britain (GB) border and will also include significant new requirements for the importation of sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) products into GB.

If you are involved in Food and Agri business, and you import/export food products to or from outside of the EU, including Great Britain (GB), it is imperative that you understand the requirements in order to avoid delays at the Port. The nature of what is required will depend on the type of food, with some exports also requiring an export health certificate or a phytosanitary certificate.

What are the risks?

If you do not complete the SPS import/export formalities your goods are at a risk of:

  • Lengthy delays
  • Refused entry to EU/GB
  • Destruction costs/return of the goods to the exporter

How can we help?

BDO is offering a SPS training course, run over two half-days, for Food Business Operators who are both new to the import/export of SPS goods and also to operators with some experience in SPS formalities.

Upon completion of the course, participants will understand:

  • The SPS requirements for your product
  • How to create an SPS pre-notification, and
  • The requirements for requesting an export health certificate.

The training sessions will take place during December and January is suitable for both beginners and those with experience in SPS formalities.
