BDO and Chartered Accountants Ireland launch book on the tax incentives and funding available to support SMEs and encourage innovation in Ireland

01 March 2019

Chartered Accountants’ Ireland has launched a new book: Business Innovation and Growth: Tax Incentives and Sources of Funding. Written by Andrew Bourg, Corporate Investment & Business Advisory Partner and Derek Henry, Tax Partner, the book aims to empower businesses by providing them with a detailed guide of the tax incentives and funding sources available in Ireland.

Innovative businesses are the backbone of the Irish economy. There are a range of supports and tax incentives available to support such businesses and to encourage and fund innovation. Unfortunately, these often go unclaimed.

Written in a clear and accessible style, Andrew Bourg and Derek Henry have combined their extensive experience of funding and tax incentives into a comprehensive guide. It provides clarity about the funding supports and tax incentives available at all stages of the business lifecycle in a way that will resonate with both tax experts as well as people in the early stages of their education about the Irish tax system and funding.

This new book explores today’s funding landscape for indigenous SMEs, considers and evaluates equity and debt finance options, government funding and supports, and other, newer sources of funding, such peer-to-peer lending and crowdfunding.

The book also advises on how to get ‘investor-ready’ by preparing to plan, applying for and securing investment. It is a must-read for business owners, business managers and their advisors.

Key features of the book include:

  • Practical examples throughout based on the authors’ extensive experience.
  • Interviews and valuable advice from an entrepreneur and company founder, a banker and a later-stage funder.
  • Checklists and ‘at a glance’ summaries of key points and takeaways.
  • A detailed summary of the dos and don’ts of raising funding.

Speaking at the book’s launch at Chartered Accountants House, Derek Henry said: “We are delighted to have work with Chartered Accountants Ireland to publish this book which we hope will inform thousands of Irish businesses about the great incentives and funding sources in place to help enterprise flourish in this country. We hope it empowers small businesses by enabling them take advantage of these incentives that will help them to continue to grow and flourish in today’s fiercely competitive business environment.”
