Declaron to offer Ireland-Britain Customs Service for FTAI

22 September 2020

Freight Transport Association of Ireland (FTAI), today, launched a partnership with Declaron, the new Brexit Clearance Solution, powered by BDO and Fexco. The Declaron solution will offer end-to-end customs clearance support for FTAI members.

FTA Ireland is a not-for-profit membership trade association for the Irish freight, passenger and logistics industries. They cover all aspects of private and public freight transport, passenger transport and logistics supply chain, including road, rail, sea and air. FTAI represents some of the largest freight and passenger operators in Ireland, with more than 25,000 employees and 10,000 vehicles operating between them.

Declaron, a new online customs clearance service, takes the pressure off Irish businesses to find a solution to the customs issues caused by Brexit. The state-of-the-art service has been designed to ensure customers will be compliant with new customs rules, avoiding potential delays and costs at borders.

Speaking at the launch of the partnership today, Aidan Flynn, General manager, FTAI said:

“With the end of the transition period fast approaching, the way that Irish businesses trade with the UK and Europe will change.  Irish businesses must ensure they are ready to meet the trading challenges that lie ahead. Irrespective of the outcome of EU-UK negotiations, from the 1st of January 2021, the rules of the single market and the customs union will no longer apply to the UK. A range of customs formalities and other regulatory requirements will be in place for goods that move through, or to and from, Ireland and Britain. With such change ahead, FTAI is pleased to announce a partnership with Declaron, powered by BDO and Fexco, to help businesses manage these new processes successfully. The service offers full end-to-end support, interfacing with the relevant authorities to ensure smooth customs clearance, as well as managing the new, stricter sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements on behalf of clients.”

Mr Flynn continued: “With their expertise, flawless platform, and excellent customer service, the team at Declaron are among the best customs clearance solution providers in the business; we are looking forward to working with them and making the new customs requirements as painless as possible for Irish companies trading with, or through, Britain.”

Carol Lynch, Partner, BDO Customs and International Trade said:

“We are delighted to partner with FTAI on this and hope that together, we can ensure as many businesses are as prepared for Brexit as possible. With only 15 weeks to go until the big day, we’d strongly recommend Irish businesses put in place a timeline and ensure all applications for customs authorisations are submitted by the end of this month. Businesses need to be sure they’ve agreed their delivery terms with customers and suppliers, have a high-quality customs agent, and arranged customs training on the information required to complete declarations. We’ve built Declaron with these challenges in mind, so your dedicated person doesn’t need to be a complete expert in customs – our system takes a lot of the stress out and give your business peace of mind. Members of our dedicated team will be demoing our platform this week.”
