Trade deal talks continue as July deadline nears
Carol Lynch, Partner at BDO Ireland and Head of Customs and International Trade, is featured in the Sunday Independent urging Irish businesses to continue preparing for the potential imposition of new US tariffs, as transatlantic negotiations approach a critical July 9 deadline.
With the EU and US facing a fast-approaching deadline to avoid sweeping tariffs, Carol Lynch is urging Irish exporters to stay alert and plan accordingly.
"Companies should prepare for the July 9 deadline and not assume it will be delayed,” Lynch said, adding that there is a feeling among Irish exporters that the current 10pc tariff was here to stay.
Her comments come amid intensified efforts in Brussels to secure a transatlantic deal that would prevent tariffs of up to 50% on some EU goods — a scenario that could hit Irish exporters hard.
While Irish and EU officials remain hopeful for a “landing zone” agreement, Lynch cautions against complacency and recommends businesses continue contingency planning.
