Brexit: The Challenges and Opportunities for the Higher Education and Research Sector
25 September 2017
A policy paper by the Higher Education and Research Committee of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce. Derry Gray, BDO Partner, is a member of this committee.
The report notes that on foot of Brexit, there are few areas that have a potential upside for Ireland, however along with financial services, the higher education and research sector provides a rare opportunity.
The potential benefits that may be derived for the sector include attracting more foreign students to Ireland, increased EU research funds and an opportunity to attract leading international academics and researchers - all with positive potential consequences for the 220,000 students currently enrolled in our higher education institutions.
The attached paper outlines areas that should be prioritised in order to maximise the potential opportunities presented to the sector.
