Mags Brennan

Mags is a Partner in the BDO Advisory department with responsibility for leading Debt Advisory and is SME Partner supporting Financial Services Risk & Advisory.

She is an experienced Financial Services professional with more than 25 years’ experience operating at senior leadership level across multiple areas of banking and geographies.

Mags and the team provide advice and support to businesses and Equity Firms on their debt funding requirements supporting M&A, Capex and Working Capital.

She is also a member of the Financial Services leadership team in BDO and works closely with the FS Risk & Advisory team providing advice and support to Financial Services companies using her extensive experience to support their business and risk strategy.

Services & Specialism

Mags has considerable experience in leading strategic change for well managed growth in banks and in supporting appropriate portfolio management in business lending units. Mags has led Business teams in AIB and PTSB across new business lending and restructuring, in Ireland, Europe and North America. Mags has in-depth sector knowledge, broad market and structuring experience.

She has helped develop and implement multiple Business and Risk Strategies / Frameworks during her banking career including Business Sector Strategy, Business Banking Strategies in two Banks, Brexit, IFSR9, Credit Policy & Procedures, Risk Appetite and ESG / Sustainability strategies and frameworks.

Mags has also helped lead and develop Digital Transformation for PTSB Business Bank and Micro Finance Ireland. Mags has also provided Strategic Advice to Alternative Lenders operating in the Irish market.

She is a seasoned market professional and as a result has been involved with multiple market stakeholders over the years including SFA/IBEC, Chambers, EI, SBCI, ISIF, and Micro Finance Ireland. Mags has been a board member of Cork Chamber and is a current board member of Chambers Ireland and MFI. Mags was also Past President and Chairman of the Chambers Ireland board.

Mags has an MBA from DCU and is a member of Institute of Bankers and Institute of Directors having completed the Chartered Director program in 2021.
